Bringing my Bad Habits Along...

I have flaws.  Some of them might seem like fatal flaws, but I have come to recognize the need to indulge myself thoughtfully in order to stay on track with an overall healthy lifestyle.  One of my flaws is a streak of laziness. It needs to be expressed sometimes, or it starts to wheedle its way into my lifestyle, undermining my motivation in everything.  Learning to accommodate my laziness has been key to staying motivated.

I have found that my flaws are best expressed with forethought and acceptance.  One of my favorite things to do is spend time reading.  I usually read thought-provoking, educational materials that expand my view of the world and my work, but I tend to take learning and self-improvement too seriously at times.  I begin to sour to new information and find my attention wandering.  I woke up this morning dreading sitting down to read and I realized that I need to indulge my lazy side.  I am planning to spend several hours one morning this week, curled up on the couch reading a murder mystery, the purer the drivel, the better.

The prospect of spending time doing exactly what I want to do has re-energized me.  Instead of trying to “force” myself to get my work done and ignore and override my lazy streak, I am making an appointment with it.  I have done the same thing with foods I love, that don’t exactly love me back.  I make a plan to have a really good meal, featuring something I crave – and I make sure it is my favorite version.  How about you?  What are you struggling with? Can you make a little room for it and really enjoy the experience?
