Getting Out of a Rut and Into a Groove; What Turns You On?

I often hear and read the statement, “change is hard work,” and I completely disagree.  It is just work, and it can be really enjoyable work that doesn’t feel hard. This concept is important to understand and practice.  When I label something as “hard” my energy level, enthusiasm, and motivation decrease.  If I take the label “hard” away and just see things without that quality, my energy level rises to meet the demands of the work.

When we focus  attention on the positive aspects of what we are changing, we increase our motivation, desire and enthusiasm naturally.

Your attitude can make the process of change fun and exciting work.  Sure, there will be times when you need to confront something disorienting, and it may feel difficult, but in reality, it is just different.  If you can just experience the new feelings, without judging them, you will find your way through them quickly and mine their value.

What turns you on? Music, good stories, connections with others, doing a good deed, or something else?  Being able to shift our attention away from a downward spiral and find something that draws us into a lighter and more positive frame of mind is a key to finding your way out of unhealthy behavior.

I’d love to hear from you, please share your ideas by commenting.
